NEO VONGOLA
Tsunayoshi Sawada never wanted to be a mafia boss. No matter what his demonic tutor, Reborn, the Arcobaleno of the Sun told him. When Reborn told him that Vongola the Ninth had approved of a new Vongola family, the Neo Vongola, he was even more adamant against it than ever. However, as time passed and Tsunayoshi grew more and more mature, he gradually began to accept his role in the mafia world. He became Neo Vongola Primo, a boss that Primo of the original Vongola would have been proud of. However, no matter how good and benevolent that Tsunayoshi had become in the mafia world there was no end to the enemies he made.
When the name of boss was passed onto Lucio Sawada, Tsuna's eldest son and Neo Vongola Secondo, the enemies that Tsunayoshi had acquired over his extensive rule as Primo seemed to come out of the wood work. They tried to take over the family, believing that Secondo was a weak successor and would be easy to overpower. They were wrong, Secondo managed to push off any assault that his enemies pushed against him. However, in a way, they were correct. Secondo was weak, emotionally. As the assassination attempts continued, Secondo's health began to fail under the stress of it all. Eventually, he passed away without naming a successor.
Two potential successors rose from the ashes of Secondo's rule - both descendants of Tsunayoshi Sawada. They both had a blood claim to who would be boss. Rather than challenge each other through a Ring battle, they split the Neo Vongola down the middle, causing a schism that would span several generations. The two sides of the Vongola eventually became the Notte Vongola and the Giorno Vongola and they remained at odds with each other for several generations. That was until their third generation when the Varia captain, Xanxus' successor and grandchild, declared that there would be a Ring Battle to decide Terzo of the Vongola family itself. The Varia had been among the Vongola's closest allies for generations, even being close to Tsunayoshi when he was boss and upon Secondo's death, the Vongola Rings had been entrusted to Xanxus and his Varia.
It was at the conclusion of the Ring Battles that left Notte boss and her guardians victorious and made her the Neo Vongola Terzo. Exhausted and injured from their battles they were met with a vicious attack and left with emotional and physical scars as their enemy attempted to steal their newly acclaimed rings from them. One year has passed since the day of the Sky Ring Battle and the ones behind the attack on the Ring Battle are stepping out into the light as more information about them arises.
