Hotaru worked hard at everything she did growing up to try to please authoritarian parents who were hard on her. Due to the manner in which she was raised, she is incredibly quiet by nature, almost to the point many aren't even sure she can speak at all. However, they can often find her growing plants with her flames just to talk with them and even more commonly be found sulking in her greenhouse. She is usually calm in general, but if somebody does manage to get her worked up...calm is thrown out the window and there is only tears and crying. She is rather tactful in the sense of knowing what to say and when to say it, but is more often than not found using bitter sarcasm behind people's backs or not saying anything at all when something needed to be said. Having received the highest marks in school her entire life, she is fairly intelligent and that is probably the only thing she finds herself to be able to be proud of. While helpful, this trait is also negative in the sense that she is helpful to the point that it detrimental to her own safety and health.

Her naive nature made it easy for her to be used, especially by Saverio when she had nothing else to lose in her life. Her attitude of that she has nothing left to lose makes her incredibly reckless in an of itself. One could almost consider her addicted to dangerous things. Like many females, she is incredibly moody, but her moody usually encompasses that of the more gloomy nature and a habit of crying over every little thing in her life. She in incredibly passive aggressive and is prone to bouts of sullen attitudes, sarcasm, and procrastination as well as sometimes pretending things are alright, when they really aren't. She is often overly compliant to the point where you could ask her to kick a puppy and she probably would. Her entire being has been trying to please others and she goes out of her way to do so.

MISCELLANEOUS
Born the youngest daughter of the youngest daughter in the Forest Guardian lineage, her prospects were abyssal. Despite this, her parents were incredibly controlling and pushing her to be the best from day one. She had to learn to walk faster than other children her age, she had to learn how to read first...she had to do everything first. They wouldn't take anything but the best from her.
From almost as soon as her flames were manifested, her mother became training her how to use them. This was before she could even attend school. Her mother was a hard, dictator of a woman and her father was just as bad. He wasn't a member of the immediate Shimon family, but one of the lower members on the rung. While her mother was teaching her how to control her flames, her father was teaching her combat abilities. Martial arts and how to fight. She could often be seen sporting bruises from harsh training sessions. She never asked for help, or anything and the few times that they were requested to ease up on the girl, they did...for only a little bit before it began again. Her grandfather was one of the most vocal of these people who tried to get his daughter to ease up on the girl, but her own daughter had long since accepted her fate that she had to suck it up and be the best at everything if she wanted to be noticed.
By this time, she had developed an unhealthy urge to want to please everybody and everything in her life. She had to. She never pleased her parents, not even when she brought home the highest grades or did something worthwhile. Even if there were days her parents weren't training her, she could be seen training herself to the point of exhaustion. This was noticed by the eldest child of the head of the family who saw her desire to be strong, to be the best, to please. She would be a highly loyal guardian, so after much discussion with his parents, they agreed to let her be the Guardian of the Forest.
One could not understand how happy she was unless they were raised by parents who were not happy with anything they did. When they heard she had become the Forest Guardian, at the age of ten. That was nearly unheard of, to be declared guardian at such a young age. The next two years were probably the best of her life. Her parents were proud of her. She could admit that for once, in her entire life, they were proud of their daughter for accomplishing what they couldn't. She was the Forest Guardian. Everything she had worked so hard for, the blood, the sweat and the tears were finally worth something. She was finally worth something to somebody. That was Saverio.
Too bad that all came crashing down and she learned that the world hated her and she began to hate it. When the youngest son of the head of the family was declared the next heir to the family. And she. She was no longer going to be the Forest Guardian because he and his parents wanted somebody else, if only to spite his brother. It was so obviously clear, however, that she was the best candidate for the position. She had completely control over her flames as well as the brains to be helpful in the long run. Why were they taking this from her? She'd worked so hard for this...for years.
Her parents heard and the pride they have felt for their daughter for two years was no longer there. She had failed them in their eyes. For the first few weeks after the announcement of the new guardians had been made, they wouldn't even look at her, let alone talk to her. It went on like this for four years.
She had tried to request the position back several times, but never succeeded. The happy girl that had been seen for two years was gone and replaced by a girl who believed that the world only wanted to make everybody miserable. She was even more miserable than she had been before she'd became the guardian. Her behavior became more erratic, rebellious at best. She would be gone all hours of the night and come back whenever she felt like it.
She wore long sleeves on a daily basis and it was obvious she was losing weight at an unhealthy pace and was barely eating at all, but why should her parents have cared? She lost the one thing they had wanted for her. She obviously wasn't the best if she was fired from the Forest Guardian position.
She's not sure what finally was the last straw of her pitiful existence, but several weeks before the coup against Salvatore and his parents, she had been rushed to the hospital having been found unconscious and unresponsive in a motel room. Her parents didn't even show up at the hospital, but her grandfather did. What he found was not pleasant and made him angry with his youngest child for driving his granddaughter to attempt suicide. The doctors told him that his granddaughter was not only starving herself, but was also cutting herself out of depression and that she had overdosed on anti-depressants she had gotten, most likely from a dealer off the streets. She was also a mess of old bruises; it had been learned she was underground fighting. It was likely that her parents neglect, their constant pushing, and then the loss of the one thing she had cared about in her entire life had been the driving forces as well as her depression. Why hadn't anybody seen it? She had been slowly destroying herself for years and had nobody noticed or cared enough? Or had she hidden it well enough that nobody noticed? Why hadn't she come to her grandfather like she always had when she was a little girl?
She was kept on suicide watch for weeks in the hospital while she recovered and was seen daily by a psychiatrist who was provided by her grandfather. Nobody is sure what changed, but there was one day, the day after the coup had occurred, Saverio walked into her hospital room and told her that she was the Forest Guardian again and gave her the Shimon Forest Ring. With new found vigor, she began recovering faster because she had something she wanted to live for again. She'd heard that the Guardians and the head family had been assassinated, as had her own family, but she didn't care. Saverio could have killed babies and she wouldn't have cared in the slightest. He gave her back what she had previously worked so hard for and she would follow him out of that loyalty. However, her grandfather quit visiting her after the coup...and didn't even call after that after he'd heard she was the Forest Guardian again, but that didn't matter...maybe he was ashamed that she'd gotten it through underhanded means? She wished she had gained her position back under her own power, but this was just fine too. She threw herself into retraining her body and her mind.
• Hotaru is well-versed in hand-to-hand combat as well as several forms of martial arts due to her father. She knows how to box, although was never personally trained by her grandfather because he had felt she had never been healthy enough for him to be able to. He did, however, give her points and demonstrations during his visits.
• Hotaru has the same ability as her grandfather, Koyo Aoba, and that is Killer Point Vision - the ability to pinpoint weak points in a persons' body. She first showed the signs of this ability during her underground street fighting and wore normal contacts to prevent it from being used all the time, after her suicide attempt and not having her contacts in, Koyo found out about this ability and provided her with a special pair of contacts that could deactivate and activate the ability as needed. Very few people know she has this ability and that is her grandfather. He promised not to tell. He had wanted to tell Enma's child about this, in hopes that they may reconsider, but it seemed that his granddaughter had long given up on ever getting what she'd worked hard for her entire life back.
• Hotaru has a greenhouse on the Shimon property that she spends most of her time in, growing new plants and creating new hybrid plants in her free time. She is able to recognize and identify many of the various breeds of botany. Because of her natural skills with plants and the like, many of the flowers in her flower shop are grown by her as well as supplying several cafes in the area with home-grown fruits and herbs for tea. Hotaru probably makes one of the best cups of tea around.
• Hotaru owns a flower shop and is known to supply Natalie of the Annullare's cafe with herbs for teas as well as various fruits, such as strawberries.
• Hotaru exhibits a control over her flames rarely seen in people. She can channel and control her flames even without the use of a Ring, but that does make it easier.

The inside of the dome has no thorns, so in order to fire the thorns, she punches the area she wants to fire thorns from.

Three-Section-Staff Hotaru's main form of weapon is a three-section staff. It is fairly portable to the point where she doesn't need to store it within a box anyway and it functions as a weapon that she knows how to use very well because of years of training.
Flying Thorns Hotaru's control over her flames is admirable, thousands of small thorns grow from the ebony wood of her staff and she starts spinning the sections of staff, releasing the thorns at the same time and sending them flying towards her opponent in every direction, while doing this, she is constantly replacing the thorns on her weapon, throwing forest flame thorns from it for a short duration of time. She can do this same ability with her quarterstaff, as well.

When she imbues said wood, ebony wood, with her forest flames to increase the growth rate of the wood into a usable form. She can do this with many different types of wood, but Ebony is a fairly dense wood that is hard to break. If left without this piece of wood, or a normal weapon, she will break various wooden items to use. Because most straight woods are dead, it is rather difficult to stimulate them to grow. She exhibits control over her flames that not many can boast of.
